If you look closely in any forest, you’ll find small holes in the ground. These are the abandoned homes where the fairies used to live. They used to hide in these holes when humans came around. Of course, everyone knows this now. But what they don’t know is that fairies didn’t always have wings. In fact, they never used to think about flying. They didn’t need to. They were safe in their holes. But soon humans invented cameras. The fairies were safe at first because the humans still had to be around to take the pictures. But the humans started to build cameras that could operate on their own. Fairies had to be extra cautious to avoid not only the humans, but the humans’ hidden cameras left in the forest. Eventually the fairies had to abandon their holes. The ground was no longer safe for them. They had to take to the trees.
The issue of how the first fairy grew its wings is still a heated debate among fairy scholars. Some say the fairies always had wings and they just didn’t need to use them when they lived on the ground. Others said that when they left the ground for the trees, certain fairies began to develop wings. The fairies that didn’t develop wings would eventually fall from the trees and land on the ground. The fairies that fell eventually grew tall and became indistinguishable from humans. And some fairies that fell actually survived on the ground, but they moved far away from the humans and the winged-fairies. But the fairies that grew wings stayed in the trees and never grew tall. No one knows if any ground survivors still exist. As far as any modern fairy is concerned, all fairies have wings now. But not Elise. She only has one wing. And she wants to fly.
I have no idea where this is going, but it has taken attention away from what I should be doing.
